Amino-Acid-Dependent Shift in tRNA Synthetase Editing Mechanisms
We have discussed orthogonality in both class to a great extent. This JACS paper looks into the editing mechanisms for the leucyl-tRNA synthtase. It was found that both pre- and post-transfer editing mechanisms are present. The noncognate amino acid determines which editing mechanism is used. I think this direction of research is interesting and could help in the development of new tRNA/synthetase pairs as knowledge is improved.

Here is a review article which talks about pre- and post-transfer editing. I found it while preparing for my presentation, but cut the figure I was planning to use out to save some space. http://www.annualreviews.org/doi/pdf/10.1146/annurev.micro.091208.073210
